Paradise Reef

• Depth: 9–12 m (30–40 ft)

• Highlights: Ideal for beginners and night diving, with gentle currents and abundant marine life.

• Marine life: Grunts, angelfish, octopuses, hermit crabs, and king crabs.

• Special feature: The first reef inside the National Marine Park, making it an excellent choice when entering or leaving the protected area.

Las Palmas

• Depth: 12–21 m (40–70 ft)

• Highlights: A steep slope decorated with colorful sponges and soft corals. Moderate currents and excellent visibility make it a great night-diving site.

• Marine life: Sea turtles, lobsters, octopuses, and seahorses.

Chankanaab Reef

• Depth: 12–15 m (40–50 ft)

• Highlights: Excellent for beginner and intermediate divers, as well as a great alternative to Paradise Reef for night dives.

• Marine life: Moray eels, octopuses, crustaceans, and a variety of reef fish living among the coral heads.

Yucab Reef

• Depth: 12–18 m (40–60 ft)

• Highlights: A vibrant reef that is perfect for underwater photography and drift diving. Currents are generally mild, but still noticeable.

• Marine life: Octopuses, lobsters, scorpionfish, angelfish, butterflyfish, grunts, and snappers.

Punta Dalila

• Depth: 9–15 m (30–50 ft)

• Highlights: A beautiful shallow reef, ideal for underwater photography.

• Marine life: Nurse sharks, eagle rays, sea turtles, and a wide variety of tropical fish.

Palancar Reef

Palancar is a vast reef system divided into several spectacular sections.

• Depth: 15–36 m (50–120 ft)

• Highlights: Massive coral formations, breathtaking swim-throughs, towering pinnacles, and coral canyons.

- Palancar Gardens

An excellent introduction to the Palancar reef system, suitable for beginner divers and filled with marine life.

- Palancar Horseshoe

Known for its dramatic horseshoe-shaped formations and dense coral growth.

- Palancar Bricks

Features impressive coral pinnacles separated by sandy channels, along with tunnels and swim-throughs.

- Palancar Caves, Shallows & Deep

Spectacular sections best suited for intermediate and advanced divers, offering dramatic formations, deep walls, and intricate passageways.

• Marine life throughout Palancar: Sea turtles, rays, snappers, groupers, moray eels, nurse sharks, sea fans, and countless tropical fish.

Colombia Reef

- Colombia Shallow

• Depth: 6–9 m (20–30 ft)

• Highlights: Excellent for photography, with colorful coral formations and abundant tropical marine life.

- Colombia Deep

• Depth: 18–36 m (60–120 ft)

• Highlights: Famous for its massive coral pinnacles, sandy chutes leading toward the deep blue, and large schools of fish.

Punta Sur Canyon & Devil’s Throat

• Depth: The tunnel begins at approximately 30 m (100 ft) and descends to around 37 m (125 ft).

• Highlights: A spectacular and narrow cave swim-through followed by a dramatic wall drop-off.

• Experience level: Advanced divers only.

Villa Blanca Wall

• Depth: 12–15 m (40–50 ft)

• Highlights: A continuous sloping wall with excellent light and visibility. It is also one of Cozumel’s most popular shore-diving locations.

• Marine life: Colorful sponges, tropical reef fish, and occasional eagle rays.

Barracuda Reef

• Depth: 27–37 m (90–120 ft)

• Highlights: Powerful currents and exciting encounters with large marine life.

• Marine life: Eagle rays, sharks, barracudas, and large schools of fish.

• Experience level: Recommended exclusively for highly experienced advanced divers.

General Information

• Cozumel’s reefs form part of the Mesoamerican Reef System, the largest barrier reef system in the Western Hemisphere.

• Many of the island’s most famous dive sites are located within the Cozumel Reefs National Marine Park, which protects approximately 120 km² of marine habitat.

• Currents typically range from 1 to 2 knots, making drift diving the standard diving style in Cozumel.

• Underwater visibility frequently reaches 40–50 m (130–165 ft).

• Most recreational dive sites remain shallower than 18 m (60 ft), while advanced locations may reach depths of approximately 37 m (125 ft).
